Lake, Friends & Black Flies…

Finally…after a very long & stressful winter, it was time to pack my bags, drive to the lake and open up for the season! I have been craving this for so long. When people talk about their “happy place”, I can totally relate…our lake is my sanity.

When we pulled up, we were excited to see that our friends had already arrived…and Miss Brinley was going crazy and wanted out of the truck because she could see her cute little boyfriend, Hodor! We turned the truck engine off and the second we opened the doors of the truck to get out, we were immediately swarmed and attacked by what seemed like thousands of black flies. As much as I hate those tiny pesky black flies (with huge teeth, I might add), I love my life at the lake more…so I will suit up in a bug jacket, douse myself in bug repellent and dart in & out all day long.

With this being opening weekend, there was lots to do inside with cleaning & organizing. Being outside was much easier to tolerate in the evenings when it was cooler. I love evenings and hanging out at the campfire…I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Even though it’s been a long 7 months, we all just picked up where we left off.

This weekend seemed to fly by in the blink of an eye. We are home now for more treatment this week but we can’t wait to return again soon. As we were packing up, our friend told us to go outside and look at the sun. We braved the bugs and went out to see what she was talking about. I looked up and saw the most amazing solar halo perfectly placed in the open sky. This is just one small example of why I love our life up North!
