Here We Go…

I have been waiting a long time for my treatment to start…and today was the day! This was round 1 of 15 radiation treatments. Heading into the hospital today I was the least nervous & anxious that I have ever been throughout this whole process.

Every single person I have encountered at the hospital has been amazing. Today I was cared for by 2 very pleasant radiation techs who were knowledgeable, kind and respectful. We discussed my upcoming appointments and possible side effects, including when to expect them. It took several minutes to get me in just the right position…it has to be perfect…down to the millimetre. The treatment itself only took 3-4 minutes and was painless.

After my treatment while we were sitting watching tv, I had this weird sensation in the area that was treated. It wasn’t pain, but it felt like little electrical currents firing off. It was the strangest feeling. I was told it has to do with the nerve endings being cut during surgery and they are now trying to heal.

So…this is my life for the next 3 weeks and I’m happy to do it!
